Description
Teach undergraduate or graduate music courses and applied lessons in areas such as performance, theory, ear training, composition, music technology, and music history; direct ensembles and coach chamber groups. Emphasizes teaching, with opportunities to combine instruction with scholarly or creative activity.
  • • Evaluate and grade students' performances, assignments, projects, and papers.
  • • Demonstrate musical techniques, repertoire, and practice strategies.
  • • Prepare students for juries, recitals, auditions, and certification exams.
  • • Deliver lectures, labs, and masterclasses on music theory, aural skills, history, pedagogy, and performance practice.
  • • Organize, rehearse, and conduct ensembles or chamber groups.
  • • Develop syllabi, assignments, rubrics, and course handouts.
  • • Facilitate classroom discussions, critiques, and peer feedback.
  • • Stay current with music scholarship, pedagogy, and industry trends through reading, conferences, and workshops.

  • • Engage in scholarly, creative, or pedagogical work; publish, present, compose, or record as appropriate.

  • • Plan, assess, and revise music curricula, course content, and instructional methods.
  • • Hold regular office hours to mentor and assist students.
  • • Create, administer, and grade exams, juries, and proficiency assessments.
  • • Participate in student recruitment, auditions, orientation, and placement.
  • • Select and procure textbooks, scores, instruments, software, and recordings.
  • • Collaborate with colleagues on programming, ensemble logistics, curriculum, and research or creative projects.
  • • Serve on departmental, college, or university committees.
  • • Perform in or support campus and community concerts, recitals, and outreach events.
  • • Share information about concerts, competitions, masterclasses, and community opportunities.
  • • Compile listening lists, repertoire guides, and bibliographies for outside study.
  • • Present and curate student recitals, recordings, and compositions.
  • • Perform administrative duties such as area coordination or ensemble direction.
  • • Advise and sponsor music student organizations and professional chapters.
  • • Write grant proposals to support research, creative activity, equipment, or outreach.
  • • Provide consulting or adjudication services for schools, festivals, or arts organizations.
