Description
Teach postsecondary courses in art, drama, and music—covering fine and applied arts, design, and crafts—through studio, performance, and lecture instruction; develop curricula and assessments; mentor students; and support departmental service, with an emphasis on teaching over research.
  • • Evaluate and grade class work, performances, projects, and papers.
  • • Explain and demonstrate artistic, musical, and theatrical techniques.
  • • Prepare students for juries, performances, exhibitions, and exams.
  • • Deliver lectures, studios, and labs on topics such as acting, music fundamentals, and art history.
  • • Organize ensembles or performance groups and direct rehearsals.
  • • Create syllabi, assignments, rubrics, and course handouts.
  • • Facilitate critiques, workshops, and classroom discussions.
  • • Stay current with artistic practice and pedagogy through literature, colleagues, and conferences.
  • • Advise students on courses, degree progress, and career pathways.
  • • Maintain attendance, grades, and other required records.
  • • Engage in creative or professional practice and share work through performances, exhibitions, or presentations.
  • • Supervise student internships, ensembles, labs, or independent studies.
  • • Plan, evaluate, and revise courses, materials, and instructional methods.
  • • Hold regular office hours to advise and assist students.
  • • Prepare, administer, and grade quizzes, juries, and examinations.
  • • Support student recruitment, auditions, registration, and placement.
  • • Select and procure textbooks, scores, instruments, tools, and performance pieces.
  • • Collaborate with colleagues on scheduling, curriculum, and program development.
  • • Serve on department or college committees.
  • • Participate in campus, gallery, and community events.
  • • Share information on community arts events, plays, and concerts.
  • • Compile resource lists and bibliographies for outside study.
  • • Curate and display student work in studios, galleries, and exhibitions.
  • • Coordinate course logistics and perform related administrative duties.
  • • Advise and mentor student organizations and clubs.
  • • Contribute to internal or external grant proposals for instructional or program support.
  • • Build partnerships with community arts organizations and schools.
  • • Maintain, inventory, and arrange minor repair of studios, shops, instruments, and equipment.
