Teach undergraduate and graduate music courses—such as theory, history, ear training, conducting, music technology, and performance—with a primary focus on teaching and optional creative or research activity; direct ensembles, mentor student musicians, and support recitals and juries.
  • • Evaluate and grade students' performances, assignments, projects, exams, and papers.
  • • Explain and demonstrate vocal, instrumental, and ensemble techniques.
  • • Prepare students for juries, recitals, auditions, and certification exams.
  • • Deliver lectures and demonstrations on music theory, history, analysis, ear training, conducting, composition, and music technology.
  • • Organize ensembles or chamber groups and direct rehearsals.
  • • Develop syllabi, assignments, rubrics, and course materials, including scores and listening lists.
  • • Facilitate classroom discussions, score study, and peer critique.
  • • Stay current with music scholarship, pedagogy, and performance practice through literature and professional conferences.
  • • Advise students on curricula, ensemble placement, practice strategies, and careers.
  • • Maintain attendance, grades, and required academic records.
  • • Engage in scholarly, creative, or pedagogical research and share work via publications, recordings, or performances.
  • • Supervise teaching assistants, accompanists, student teachers, internships, or research projects.
  • • Plan, assess, and revise music curricula, course content, and instructional methods.
  • • Hold regular office hours to mentor and assist students.
  • • Create, administer, and grade exams, juries, proficiency tests, and placement assessments.
  • • Participate in student recruitment, auditions, orientation, and placement activities.
  • • Select and procure scores, repertoire, texts, instruments, software, and other instructional materials.
  • • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum, ensemble programming, and student success initiatives.
  • • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
  • • Participate in campus and community concerts, outreach, and events.
  • • Inform students about concerts, masterclasses, competitions, and professional opportunities.
  • • Compile annotated bibliographies, discographies, and listening guides for outside study.
  • • Coordinate and present student performances, recitals, and recordings.
  • • Perform administrative duties such as area coordination or ensemble management.
  • • Advise student music organizations and honor societies.
  • • Write grant proposals to support equipment, ensembles, research, or outreach.
  • • Provide professional services such as adjudication, clinics, workshops, or consulting.
  • • Maintain, schedule, or oversee rehearsal spaces, studios, instruments, and lab facilities.
