Description
Plan, write, and coordinate architectural and engineering specifications and project manuals for building projects, translating design intent into clear, code-compliant requirements and procurement documents. Research products, align specs with drawings and sustainability goals, and support bidding and construction administration.
- • Develop project specifications for materials, products, execution, and quality requirements.
- • Prepare Division 00 and Division 01 procurement and contracting requirements.
- • Coordinate specifications across architectural, structural, MEP, civil, and fire protection disciplines.
- • Align specifications with drawings, details, schedules, and BIM data.
- • Research materials and systems; evaluate product data, certifications, and performance.
- • Reference applicable codes and standards to ensure compliance.
- • Incorporate sustainability criteria, such as LEED or low-emitting material requirements.
- • Draft outline specifications and design narratives for early project phases.
- • Edit and maintain master templates using specification software.
- • Organize the project manual and CSI MasterFormat table of contents.
- • Specify submittals, mockups, testing, and quality assurance procedures.
- • Define closeout, operations and maintenance data, warranties, and commissioning requirements.
- • Prepare alternates, allowances, and unit price sections.
- • Lead specification review meetings with the design team and client.
- • Issue addenda, bulletins, and clarifications during bidding and construction.
- • Review substitution requests and assist with product selection decisions.
- • Support responses to RFIs related to specification requirements.
- • Coordinate with consultants to eliminate conflicts and scope gaps between sections.
- • Perform QA/QC reviews of drawings and specifications for consistency and completeness.
- • Participate in site observations and submittal reviews to verify conformance to specifications.
- • Track and implement value engineering and cost-saving changes in the specifications.
- • Maintain firm-wide specification standards, keynotes, and lessons learned.
