Conduct research in silkworm genetics, nutrition, breeding, rearing, and mulberry cultivation to improve cocoon quality and silk yield.
- • Conduct research on silkworm breeding, mulberry agronomy, and rearing management to improve cocoon yield and silk quality.
- • Advise sericulture farmers and reelers on improved rearing techniques, mulberry cultivation, and post-cocoon handling.
- • Study silkworm nutritional requirements and mulberry leaf quality, varieties, and harvest timing.
- • Evaluate effects of rearing schedules, environmental control, and leaf management on cocoon yield, shell ratio, filament length, and raw silk grade.
- • Develop and implement rearing-house design, sanitation practices, and integrated pest and disease management for silkworms and mulberry.
- • Select, maintain, and improve silkworm strains and mulberry varieties for productivity, fiber traits, and stress tolerance.
- • Analyze genetic parameters and heritability of key traits such as denier, voltinism, and disease resistance to guide breeding.
- • Produce and quality-test disease-free layings, and manage grainage and pebrine inspection protocols.
- • Document, publish, and present findings; train extension staff and producers through workshops and field demonstrations.
