Conduct research and develop nutrition programs for beef cattle to optimize growth, health, feed efficiency, and carcass quality across cow-calf, stocker, and feedlot systems while improving sustainability and profitability.
- • Conduct research on beef cattle nutrition and management to improve performance and carcass quality.
- • Formulate and balance rations for cow-calf, stocker, and feedlot classes using NRC guidelines and performance data.
- • Evaluate feedstuffs, forages, and byproducts for nutrient content, digestibility, and cost-effectiveness.
- • Study effects of feeding strategies, feed processing, and bunk management on intake, health, and feed efficiency.
- • Develop grazing, supplementation, mineral, and water programs to meet seasonal nutrient requirements.
- • Design and analyze feedlot and pasture trials; collect and interpret intake, gain, health, and carcass data.
- • Advise producers on feed additives, step-up programs, and strategies to manage acidosis, bloat, and deficiencies.
- • Monitor feed quality and safety; oversee sampling, lab analysis, and compliance with feed regulations and VFD.
- • Communicate findings and recommendations through reports, extension meetings, and producer trainings.
