Conduct basic and applied research on the genetics, nutrition, reproduction, growth, and development of domestic farm animals to improve welfare and production.
- • Design and conduct studies on animal nutrition, breeding, and management to improve products and processes.
- • Advise producers on products, techniques, and technologies to enhance animal production.
- • Determine nutritional requirements and evaluate nutritive values of feeds.
- • Assess how management, processing, feed, and environment affect yield and quality of products such as milk and eggs.
- • Develop and validate improved practices for feeding, housing, sanitation, and parasite and disease control.
- • Research and manage selection and breeding programs to increase efficiency and animal quality.
- • Analyze genetic composition of populations and estimate heritability of key traits.
- • Crossbreed or develop lines to combine desirable characteristics.
- • Publish and present research findings to scientists, producers, and the public.
