Teach and prepare out-of-school youth and adults to pass the GED tests and earn a high school equivalency credential, delivering instruction in language arts, math, science, and social studies; assess skills, tailor instruction, guide students through registration and testing, and maintain compliant records in a safe, orderly classroom.
  • • Prepare materials, resources, and classrooms for GED-focused activities.
  • • Apply and uphold school and program policies consistently.
  • • Adapt teaching methods and materials to students’ varying skill levels and goals.
  • • Evaluate students’ work and practice tests to monitor progress and target support.
  • • Plan balanced lessons that combine instruction, guided practice, and independent work.
  • • Instruct individuals and groups using lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and problem solving.
  • • Maintain accurate attendance, assessment, and progress records per program and state requirements.
  • • Set and communicate clear objectives aligned to GED content standards.

  • • Coordinate lesson plans and schedules with staff to optimize learning time.
  • • Collaborate with counselors, case managers, and specialists on student progress.
  • • Engage in professional development on GED updates and adult learning strategies.
  • • Prepare for classes and maintain lesson plans and documentation as requested.
  • • Produce required reports on student outcomes and program activities.
  • • Select, order, and manage GED prep texts, workbooks, and digital resources.
  • • Collaborate with colleagues and workforce partners on integrated instruction.
  • • Support outreach, orientation, and student recruitment efforts.
  • • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as needed.
  • • Organize guest speakers, testing center visits, and relevant experiential activities.
  • • Advise students on career pathways, job search resources, and referrals.
  • • Schedule classes and study sessions to maximize access and attendance.
  • • Provide or coordinate assistive technology and GED testing accommodations support.
  • • Train and supervise volunteer tutors and peer mentors.
  • • Partner with community agencies and testing centers to expand student opportunities.
  • • Mentor, observe, and provide feedback to other instructors when assigned.
