Teach adult and out-of-school youth English language learners to build listening, speaking, reading, and writing for daily life, work, and further education; design and deliver standards-aligned instruction, assess proficiency and progress, maintain required records, and support student persistence, integration, and transition goals.
- • Adapt teaching methods and materials to learners’ proficiency levels, goals, and cultural backgrounds.
- • Observe and evaluate learners’ language performance to monitor progress and target feedback.
- • Plan communicative, task-based activities that integrate listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
- • Instruct individuals and groups using discussions, demonstrations, role-plays, and guided practice.
- • Maintain accurate enrollment, attendance, assessment, and progress records per program policies.

- • Guide learners to job centers, bridge programs, internships, and placement resources.
- • Schedule class times and delivery modes (in-person, online, hybrid) to maximize access.
- • Provide accommodations and assistive technologies for learners with disabilities.
- • Train, supervise, and coach volunteer tutors and conversation partners.
- • Partner with employers and community agencies to create real-world language practice opportunities.
- • Observe, mentor, and provide feedback to other ESL instructors or tutors when assigned.
