Description
Teach out-of-school adults remedial reading, writing, math, and study/digital literacy skills through individualized and small-group instruction to close skill gaps and prepare learners for high school equivalency, placement benchmarks, workforce training, or employment.
  • • Adapt teaching methods and materials to deliver targeted skill remediation based on learner needs.
  • • Observe and evaluate students' work to monitor progress and guide improvements.
  • • Plan balanced lessons with diagnostic review, explicit instruction, guided practice, and application.
  • • Instruct students individually and in groups using lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and tutoring.
  • • Maintain accurate and complete student records per program and regulatory requirements.
  • • Prepare materials, learning stations, and classrooms for remedial activities.
  • • Establish clear, measurable objectives for lessons, units, and interventions and communicate them to students.
  • • Conduct classes and workshops in remedial reading, writing, numeracy, study skills, digital literacy, and workplace readiness.

  • • Counsel students on time management, study habits, test-taking strategies, and academic persistence.
  • • Enforce program, testing, and institutional policies consistently.
  • • Review instructional content, methods, and student data to refine and improve courses and interventions.
  • • Collaborate with staff to plan lessons, labs, and tutoring aligned to approved curricula.
  • • Meet with counselors, case managers, and support staff to discuss student needs and progress.
  • • Attend professional development on adult learning, remedial strategies, and assessment practices.
  • • Prepare for classes and maintain lesson plans and documentation as requested by supervisors.
  • • Prepare reports on attendance, progress, outcomes, and program activities.
  • • Select, order, and manage leveled texts, manipulatives, and skill-building resources.
  • • Collaborate with teachers, tutors, and instructional coaches to coordinate remediation.
  • • Participate in outreach, community awareness, and student recruitment for remedial programs.
  • • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
  • • Plan and supervise applied learning projects, simulations, guest speakers, and other experiential activities.
  • • Advise students on bridge programs, training pathways, and job readiness resources.
  • • Select and schedule class, lab, and tutoring times to maximize attendance and persistence.
  • • Provide accommodations and assistive technology for students with disabilities and ensure access to facilities.
  • • Train and support volunteer tutors and peer mentors in remedial techniques and resources.
  • • Coordinate with community agencies and employers to create practice opportunities and meet curriculum goals.
  • • Observe and provide feedback on the instructional practices of tutors or adjunct instructors.
