Description
Design and deliver plans, specifications, and estimates for roadway and multimodal transportation projects in accordance with federal, state, and local standards. Perform geometric, drainage, traffic control, and lighting design; develop complete PS&E packages; coordinate with stakeholders; and support permitting and construction to improve safety, mobility, and sustainability.
  • • Prepare roadway, intersection, and multimodal geometric designs, including alignments, profiles, and cross sections.
  • • Produce complete plan sets, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) using CAD and design software.
  • • Develop traffic control plans, signing, striping, and work zone layouts per MUTCD and agency standards.
  • • Design traffic signals, roundabouts, and intelligent transportation or lighting systems as required.
  • • Perform drainage and stormwater management design, including culverts, inlets, pipes, and BMPs.
  • • Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic calculations and prepare technical reports.
  • • Model transportation scenarios to evaluate capacity, safety, and operational performance.
  • • Review development or site plans to assess roadway access, circulation, and traffic impacts.
  • • Prepare quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and design schedules.
  • • Check design calculations, drawings, and estimates for accuracy and conformance to standards.
  • • Evaluate and select materials and details to meet structural, environmental, and durability requirements.
  • • Analyze crash, speed, and volume data and recommend design countermeasures.
  • • Coordinate utility investigations, conflict resolution, and relocation designs.
  • • Prepare right-of-way plans, easements, and property impact exhibits.
  • • Confer with contractors, agencies, and utility companies to clarify plans and specifications.
  • • Present design concepts, exhibits, and findings at public meetings or hearings.
  • • Participate in bidding and procurement by preparing addenda and responding to RFIs.
  • • Provide construction-phase engineering support, including shop drawing review and field changes.
  • • Inspect or review constructed elements for conformance with design intent and standards.
  • • Ensure ADA and Complete Streets compliance for pedestrian and bicycle facilities.
  • • Incorporate sustainable and context-sensitive solutions, materials, and practices.
  • • Prepare and support environmental documentation and permit applications.
  • • Integrate erosion, sediment, and temporary drainage controls into project designs.
  • • Develop and implement QA/QC procedures for design deliverables.
  • • Document design decisions and prepare technical memoranda and summary reports.
