Description
Design, analyze, and optimize traffic operations and safety for streets and highways. Prepare signal, signing/striping, lighting, and work zone traffic control plans; conduct traffic impact studies and modeling; and plan intersection and corridor improvements in accordance with engineering standards, MUTCD, and state or federal policy.
- • Present traffic analyses, models, and plans at public meetings or hearings.
- • Review development proposals to assess traffic impact and required mitigation.
- • Prepare technical and statistical reports on crashes, congestion, and traffic operations.
- • Evaluate and optimize traffic signals, signs, pavement markings, and lighting for performance and safety.
- • Model traffic scenarios to test improvements and assess impacts of new development.
- • Develop and calibrate microsimulation or signal-timing models to support recommendations.
- • Prepare project scopes, budgets, schedules, and specifications for traffic work.
- • Produce signing/striping, traffic signal, and work zone traffic control plan sheets.
- • Plan and design intersection and corridor modifications to improve safety and flow.
- • Participate in bidding, negotiation, and contract administration for traffic projects.
- • Investigate traffic problems in the field and recommend countermeasures.
- • Inspect traffic control installations to verify compliance with MUTCD and agency standards.
- • Direct traffic data collection, including counts, speeds, delays, and pedestrian or bicycle volumes.
- • Estimate costs for traffic improvements, signal systems, and ITS deployments.
- • Coordinate with contractors, utilities, and government agencies on plans, schedules, and traffic control.
- • Check traffic plans, timing sheets, quantities, and cost estimates for accuracy and conformance.
- • Review traffic sections of environmental documents and safety studies.
- • Oversee maintenance, retiming, and repair of signals, flashers, and ITS devices.
- • Design roadway lighting layouts and perform photometric checks for intersections and corridors.
- • Develop or customize tools, databases, or scripts to support traffic analyses and reporting.
