Recreation Workers
Description
Lead and coordinate recreation programs and facility operations in public, private, or community settings. Supervise staff, plan and promote diverse activities, manage safety and compliance, allocate resources and schedules, and ensure programs meet participant needs and organizational goals.
  • • Schedule maintenance, space assignments, and equipment use to maximize availability.
  • • Enforce and ensure compliance with facility rules and safety regulations.
  • • Oversee, schedule, and promote a balanced calendar of recreational programs and events.
  • • Manage daily operations of recreation facilities, including staffing and customer service.
  • • Oversee first-aid response and emergency procedures; provide care and contact EMS when necessary.
  • • Ensure welcoming orientations for new participants and consistent application of facility policies.
  • • Develop and enforce safety protocols; ensure staff instruct participants on proper techniques and equipment use.
  • • Evaluate facilities, programs, and services for quality, safety, and desired outcomes; implement improvements.
  • • Oversee timekeeping, staff schedules, and inventory control; maintain required records.
  • • Address and resolve participant complaints and incidents; escalate issues to management as needed.
  • • Supervise, train, and coach staff; assign work duties and coordinate daily workflows.
  • • Collaborate with agency leadership and community partners to plan inclusive recreational offerings.
  • • Direct and support special activities and large events, such as aquatics, tournaments, or performances.
  • • Lead regular staff meetings to review rules, procedures, schedules, and work-related issues.
  • • Coordinate logistics, vendors, supplies, decorations, and equipment setup for programs and events.
  • • Foster participant engagement and leadership through committees, feedback, and group discussions.
  • • Serve as liaison between administrators, instructors, coaches, and volunteers.
  • • Conduct performance evaluations and document staff performance.
  • • Oversee purchasing and the planning, upkeep, and improvement of recreation facilities and areas.
  • • Assess community and participant needs and interests to guide program development and resource allocation.
