Description
Operate high-resolution scanners to digitize photographs, transparencies, and artwork; adjust color, tone, and scale to specifications; and deliver calibrated image files and proofs for prepress and printing.
  • • Set up and operate flatbed and/or drum scanners for high-resolution image capture.
  • • Inspect originals for dust, scratches, and defects before scanning.
  • • Select scanning parameters for color density, exposure, size, resolution, and screen ruling.
  • • Calibrate scanners and monitors using targets and ICC profiles.
  • • Evaluate and correct highlights, midtones, shadows, and overall color using densitometers and software tools.
  • • Perform dust removal, noise reduction, and basic retouching and clipping paths.
  • • Convert and manage color spaces (RGB, CMYK, spot) to press specifications.
  • • Generate color-managed digital proofs and verify appearance against standards.
  • • Perform image quality control for focus, moiré, artifacts, and banding.
  • • Name, organize, and archive image files; enter, store, and retrieve job data in prepress systems.
  • • Preflight image files for resolution, color profile, links, and completeness before handoff.
  • • Maintain, clean, and make minor repairs to scanning equipment.
  • • Communicate with designers and press operators about image requirements and issues.
  • • Batch-scan and automate repetitive tasks using scanner software settings and actions.
  • • Crop, rotate, and scale images to layout and bleed specifications.
