Description
Sort, route, and prepare incoming and outgoing mail for distribution in postal or mail processing facilities. Examine addresses, verify postage and documentation, separate items for special handling, and operate basic sorting and canceling equipment. Bundle and label mail, maintain simple shipment records, and assist with loading and unloading.
  • • Route mail using established schemes and computer systems.
  • • Bundle, label, and route sorted mail to designated areas by deadline.
  • • Assist in training new sorters.
  • • Distribute incoming mail to correct boxes or slots.
  • • Operate scanners, OCR/barcode sorters, and canceling equipment.
  • • Look up correct addresses for redirected or insufficiently addressed mail.
  • • Clear jams and restart sorting equipment.
  • • Verify addresses, postage, documentation, and item condition.
  • • Open, label, and seal mail containers.
  • • Rewrap and secure damaged or soiled parcels.
  • • Move mail containers using carts, pallet jacks, or conveyors.
  • • Hand-sort odd-sized or exception mail and segregate items needing special handling.
  • • Load and unload mail, moving containers to and from sorting stations.
  • • Cancel postage by hand when required.
