Operate patternless edgers to cut, bevel, groove, and finish ophthalmic lenses to fit frames. Block lenses, set sizing and bevel profiles, insert and align lenses in frames, verify fit to prescriptions and frame specs, and maintain and calibrate edging equipment.
  • • Review prescriptions and work orders to determine sizing, decentration, bevel, and drill or groove requirements.
  • • Select lens blanks, blocks, pads, chuck adapters, and edging programs per specifications.
  • • Trace frames or demo lenses and import shape data into the tracer/edger.
  • • Lay out and mark optical centers, axis, PD, and heights for blocking.
  • • Block lenses accurately using appropriate adhesives or pads.
  • • Set up and operate patternless edgers to edge, bevel, and finish lenses.
  • • Program edger parameters for size, bevel placement, safety bevels, and polish.
  • • Edge lenses to final size and shape; re-edge as needed for proper fit.
  • • Cut grooves for semi-rimless (nylor) and drill holes for rimless mounts.
  • • Apply safety bevels and smooth or polish lens edges.
  • • Mount and secure finished lenses in full-rim, semi-rimless, and rimless frames.
  • • Adjust frames and lenses to correct alignment and cosmetic fit.
  • • Inspect power, axis, prism, size, and cosmetics using a lensometer, calipers, and gauges.
  • • Clean lenses and frames to remove debris, residue, and markings.
  • • Repair or replace screws, nose pads, and minor frame components.
  • • Maintain and calibrate edgers, tracers, and blockers; replace wheels and cutters.
  • • Document job details and stage orders for final quality checks or shipment.
  • • Follow safety, handling, and material care procedures to prevent damage.
  • • Review prescriptions and work orders to determine sizing, bevel, groove, and drill requirements.
  • • Trace frames, demo lenses, or patterns and load shapes into the edger.
  • • Mark optical centers and axis; block and pad lenses for secure chucking.

  • • Insert lenses into frames and adjust alignment for proper fit.
  • • Heat plastic frames to ease insertion and reduce stress.
  • • Verify lens size, axis, PD, and bevel placement with calipers, gauges, and a lensometer.
  • • Inspect lenses for chips, waves, coating damage, and other defects.
  • • Perform basic frame assembly and minor repairs using precision hand tools.
  • • Maintain, clean, and calibrate edgers, tracers, and blockers.
  • • Monitor coolant, filtration, and wheel condition to ensure cut quality.
  • • Organize job trays and document work status in lab systems.
  • • Follow safety, quality, and prescription standards throughout production.
