Description
Operate optical edging equipment to cut, bevel, groove, drill, and polish ophthalmic lenses to prescription and frame specifications; trace frames, block lenses, verify fit and quality, and prepare lenses for mounting.
  • • Review prescriptions and work orders to determine lens diameter, bevel, groove, and fit requirements.
  • • Select lens blanks, blocks, pads, tools, and edging wheels according to specifications.
  • • Trace frames or demo lenses to capture outlines and drill or groove coordinates.
  • • Block lenses and secure them in chucks on edgers and groovers.
  • • Set up and operate edging, beveling, grooving, and drilling machines.
  • • Adjust cutting parameters for size, bevel placement, curvature, and depth of cut.
  • • Cut and shape lenses to fit full-rim, semi-rimless, and rimless frames.
  • • Drill holes and cut slots for three-piece and semi-rimless mounts.
  • • Safety-bevel and polish lens edges and grooves.
  • • Test-fit lenses in frames and perform incremental cuts to achieve precise fit.
  • • Verify size, axis alignment, bevel placement, and cosmetics using calipers, lensometers, and gauges.
  • • Inspect lenses for chips, waves, and surface flaws and confirm coating integrity.
  • • Clean finished lenses and frames using approved cloths and solvents.
  • • Heat and adjust plastic frames to aid lens insertion and alignment.
  • • Remove lenses from blockers and sort pairs for mounting or downstream processing.
  • • Maintain, calibrate, and replace edging wheels, bits, and pads, and keep equipment and work area clean.
  • • Document work, materials, and quality results per lab standards.
