Description
Assess and improve workplace safety by identifying hazards, evaluating risks, and implementing programs and procedures to prevent injuries and exposures from chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic factors. Conduct inspections, incident investigations, and training; recommend controls; and enforce compliance with safety laws, standards, and company policies in public or private sector settings.
  • • Stop work when conditions pose an immediate threat to safety.
  • • Recommend engineering, administrative, and PPE controls for hazardous tasks, processes, or materials.
  • • Investigate incidents and near-misses to determine root causes and preventive actions.
  • • Assess ventilation, exhaust, lighting, and other conditions affecting safety and health.
  • • Develop and maintain safety and industrial hygiene programs (e.g., noise surveys, air monitoring, ventilation assessments, asbestos control).
  • • Inspect workplaces, equipment, and practices for compliance with OSHA and company standards.
  • • Partner with engineering, maintenance, and occupational health to implement hazard controls.
  • • Deliver safety training and demonstrate proper use of PPE and safety equipment.
  • • Conduct new-hire safety orientations and develop training materials.
  • • Perform field monitoring for dust, gases, vapors, noise, or other hazards; coordinate analyses.
  • • Investigate safety and health complaints and verify compliance with applicable regulations.
  • • Manage Hazard Communication and right-to-know programs, including SDSs and labeling.
  • • Maintain and update emergency response plans and procedures.
  • • Coordinate occupational health surveillance and medical monitoring with clinical staff.
  • • Verify availability and readiness of fire protection, safety equipment, and first-aid supplies.
  • • Conduct safety audits at facilities, construction sites, and hazardous work areas.
  • • Arrange sampling and testing of hazardous materials when required.
  • • Maintain inventories of hazardous materials and ensure proper handling, storage, and tracking.
  • • Oversee proper packaging, labeling, and staging of hazardous waste for transport or disposal.
  • • Review laboratory results and conduct field inspections to verify exposure controls and cleanliness.
  • • Analyze incident and inspection data to identify trends and drive corrective actions.
  • • Prepare clear reports, dashboards, and regulatory documentation.
