Description
Evaluate and manage hazardous waste programs to prevent releases and exposures, ensuring safe handling, storage, transportation, treatment, and disposal in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Conduct inspections, waste characterization, and tracking; design procedures and training to control hazards; and coordinate emergency response and corrective actions in public or private settings.
- • Halt waste handling or storage activities that present imminent health, safety, or environmental hazards.
- • Recommend safe segregation, containerization, and disposal methods for hazardous and universal wastes.
- • Investigate spills, releases, and waste-related incidents to determine causes and preventive measures.
- • Assess ventilation, secondary containment, and engineering controls in waste storage and processing areas.
- • Develop and maintain waste characterization, profiling, and compatibility programs.
- • Inspect accumulation areas, containers, labels, and records to ensure compliance with RCRA, DOT, and OSHA requirements.

- • Conduct compliance audits of waste storage, treatment, and disposal facilities and contractors.
- • Maintain cradle-to-grave inventories and manifests using waste tracking systems.
- • Package, label, and prepare hazardous waste shipments in accordance with DOT and EPA regulations.
- • Perform or coordinate laboratory analyses to determine ignitability, corrosivity, reactivity, and toxicity characteristics.
- • Analyze spill and nonconformance data to identify trends and opportunities for waste minimization and risk reduction.
- • Prepare permits, manifests, biennial reports, and other compliance documentation for regulators and management.
- • Lead or support hazardous site investigations, cleanups, and closure activities.
