  • • Follow nuclear equipment operational policies and procedures that ensure environmental safety.
  • • Conduct surveillance testing to verify the safety of nuclear equipment.
  • • Monitor reactor and plant systems to identify inefficiencies, hazards, or maintenance needs.
  • • Test plant equipment to ensure proper operation.
  • • Apply safety tags to equipment requiring maintenance.
  • • Adhere to radiation worker policies and procedures to ensure personnel safety.
  • • Modify, build, or maintain nuclear equipment used in operations.
  • • Monitor instruments, gauges, and recording devices under direction of experimenters or operators.
  • • Perform testing, maintenance, repair, or upgrades of accelerator systems.
  • • Warn maintenance workers of radiation hazards and direct personnel to vacate hazardous areas.
  • • Calculate operating factors such as radiation times, doses, temperatures, gamma intensities, and pressures using standard formulas and conversion tables.
  • • Measure radiation intensity and identify radiation types in work areas, equipment, or materials using detectors and other instruments.
  • • Coordinate with accelerator maintenance personnel to ensure readiness of vacuum, water cooling, and radio frequency power systems.
  • • Identify and implement appropriate decontamination procedures based on the size, nature, and type of contamination.
  • • Decontaminate objects by cleaning with soap or solvents or by abrading with brushes, buffing machines, or sandblasting equipment.
  • • Collect air, water, gas, or solid samples to assess radioactivity levels and containment effectiveness.
  • • Recommend radioactive decontamination procedures according to equipment characteristics and degree of contamination.
