Description
Operate and monitor nuclear power plant systems as an NRC-licensed operator, controlling reactor and balance-of-plant equipment to produce electricity safely and in compliance with procedures and regulations. Perform surveillances, execute startups, shutdowns, and power changes, respond to alarms and abnormal conditions, and coordinate maintenance and radiological controls.
  • • Operate reactor controls, turbines, generators, and auxiliary systems per approved procedures.
  • • Execute plant startups, shutdowns, power maneuvers, and equipment lineups.
  • • Monitor control room indications, alarms, and trends to keep parameters within technical limits.
  • • Conduct required surveillance tests and field rounds to verify system operability and compliance.
  • • Implement lockout/tagout and clearance orders to isolate equipment for maintenance.
  • • Follow radiation work permits and ALARA practices; coordinate access with Radiation Protection.
  • • Perform channel checks and functional tests of protection and radiation monitoring systems.
  • • Start, stop, and align pumps, valves, breakers, and heat exchangers to support operations.
  • • Calculate and record key operating data, such as reactivity changes, heat balances, flows, and pressures.
  • • Respond to transients and initiate abnormal or emergency operating procedures as required.
  • • Maintain accurate logs, shift records, and equipment status boards.
  • • Coordinate with maintenance, chemistry, electrical, and I&C personnel to plan and support work.
  • • Obtain system samples as directed and monitor effluent and area radiation indications.
  • • Verify equipment returns to service and perform post-maintenance testing.
  • • Conduct pre-job briefs and perform work under approved procedures and clearances.
  • • Participate in simulator drills, continuing training, and license requalification.
  • • Communicate plant status and priorities during shift briefings and turnovers.
  • • Ensure compliance with environmental, regulatory, and plant technical specifications.
