Description
Assist licensed operators and plant engineers by operating and monitoring non-licensed systems and equipment in a nuclear power plant. Perform field rounds, equipment lineups, and local start/stop of pumps, valves, and auxiliaries under procedures and control room direction. Conduct surveillances, logging, sampling, and basic decontamination while maintaining industrial and radiological safety and environmental compliance.
- • Follow plant operating procedures and environmental protection policies.
- • Conduct routine surveillance tests to verify equipment operability.
- • Perform field rounds and log instrument readings; report abnormalities to the control room.
- • Monitor reactor support and balance-of-plant systems for hazards or maintenance needs.
- • Start, stop, and locally operate pumps, valves, fans, and other auxiliaries as directed.
- • Align systems and perform valve and breaker lineups per approved procedures.
- • Apply and clear lockout/tagout and equipment status tags per procedure.
- • Test plant equipment and alarms to ensure proper operation.
- • Respond to plant alarms and abnormal conditions; stabilize equipment within procedure limits.
- • Collect water, steam, gas, and radwaste samples for chemistry and radiological analysis.
- • Use portable radiation instruments as authorized by RWP; recognize and report radiological hazards.
- • Calculate and record parameters such as flows, pressures, temperatures, and tank volumes using standard charts and formulas.
- • Assist maintenance by isolating equipment and providing system status.
- • Perform basic operator maintenance such as lubrication, filter changes, and housekeeping.
- • Support reactor startup, shutdown, and refueling evolutions by operating field equipment.
- • Operate and monitor radwaste processing systems and demineralizers per procedures.
- • Perform basic decontamination and housekeeping to maintain ALARA and contamination controls.
- • Verify operation of area radiation monitors and local alarms per surveillance procedures.
- • Communicate system status to licensed operators, chemistry, maintenance, and radiation protection.
- • Identify and implement immediate compensatory measures within authority; initiate work requests for deficiencies.
