Description
Direct and coordinate a station’s sports coverage across TV, radio, and digital, overseeing planning, production, staffing, rights, and budgets to deliver timely, high-quality live events, newscasts, and features in compliance with policies and FCC rules.
- • Plan and schedule sports programming, live events, and coverage based on airtime, availability, audience data, and community interest.
- • Monitor sports newscasts and live broadcasts to ensure schedules, standards, and quality are met.
- • Direct and coordinate anchors, reporters, producers, photographers, editors, and freelancers on sports assignments.
- • Check completed program logs for accuracy and FCC compliance; resolve discrepancies.
- • Establish work schedules and assign coverage, crews, and travel.
- • Coordinate with news, programming, engineering, and digital teams on sports coverage.
- • Hire, train, coach, and evaluate sports staff.
- • Evaluate sports content using ratings, digital metrics, and audience feedback; implement improvements.

- • Develop promotions and sponsorship integrations for games, shows, and specials.
- • Write copy and oversee editing of highlights, packages, and teases for air and digital.
- • Create and greenlight original sports shows, segments, and franchises.
- • Participate in community outreach and station initiatives through sports coverage and events.
- • Fill in on-air for sports segments, play-by-play, or promotional announcements as needed.
- • Operate or supervise on-air and production audio/video equipment for sports content.
- • Plan and direct setup of remote and live sports productions; coordinate transmission and contingency plans.
- • Cue anchors, announcers, and guests during live and recorded sports segments.
- • Conduct and assign interviews with athletes, coaches, and analysts.
- • Serve as liaison with teams, leagues, schools, talent, and directors to coordinate access, credentials, and information.
- • Ensure accuracy of scores, statistics, and graphics and compliance with editorial, rights, and credential policies.
