Description
Lead programming strategy and daily schedules for a radio or television station, directing content development, acquisition, and staff to deliver compelling, compliant programming that meets audience, brand, and revenue goals.
  • • Plan and schedule programs and event coverage based on format, length, ratings, and audience research.
  • • Monitor on-air product to ensure schedules, clocks, and quality standards are met.
  • • Direct and coordinate on-air, news, sports, and production personnel.
  • • Review and approve program logs for accuracy and FCC compliance; correct discrepancies.
  • • Create staff schedules and assign shifts and duties.
  • • Coordinate with sales, promotions, news, engineering, and digital teams.
  • • Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate staff; manage performance and coaching.
  • • Assess new and existing shows using research and feedback; implement changes as needed.
  • • Develop and manage programming budgets; track expenses and performance.
  • • Collaborate with producers and creative teams on show development, casting, and coverage plans.
  • • Select and acquire shows, music, rights, and other content; secure legal clearances.
  • • Monitor network feeds and automation for advisories, special reports, and schedule changes.
  • • Approve and develop promotions, imaging, contests, and specials.
  • • Write or approve copy; edit audio or video to prepare material for air.
  • • Generate ideas for new programs and features; pilot and launch initiatives.
  • • Plan and execute pledge drives or fundraising activities as applicable.
  • • Publish accurate schedules and metadata; update website, EPG, and listings.
  • • Perform on-air duties as needed, including live reads, PSAs, or hosting.
  • • Oversee studio, on-air, and production equipment operations with engineering.
  • • Plan and direct remote broadcasts; coordinate setup and tear-down.
  • • Cue and prep announcers, performers, and guests during live and recorded segments.
  • • Conduct or assign interviews for broadcast and digital platforms.
  • • Serve as liaison between talent and management; communicate expectations and feedback.
  • • Ensure EAS tests, public file, underwriting, and other regulatory requirements are met.
