Direct and coordinate a station’s public service, community affairs, and PSA programming, ensuring schedules, quality, and regulatory compliance while advancing community outreach across radio and television platforms.
  • • Plan and schedule public service, community affairs, and PSA programming and event coverage based on broadcast length, time availability, community needs, ratings data, and audience demographics.
  • • Monitor and review public service and community programming to ensure schedules are met, guidelines are followed, and quality standards are achieved.
  • • Direct and coordinate activities of personnel engaged in public affairs shows, PSAs, and community outreach.
  • • Check completed program logs and PSA affidavits for accuracy and conformance with FCC rules and resolve log inaccuracies.
  • • Establish work schedules and assign work to public service staff, producers, and interns.
  • • Coordinate activities between departments, such as news, programming, sales, and marketing, to integrate public service content and campaigns.
  • • Perform personnel duties, such as hiring staff and volunteers and evaluating work performance.
  • • Evaluate new and existing public service programming to assess suitability and the need for changes, using audience surveys, community feedback, and impact metrics.
  • • Develop budgets for public service programming, outreach, and PSA campaigns and monitor expenditures to remain within budget.
  • • Confer with directors, producers, and community partners to discuss production, budgets, policies, and coverage of community issues.
  • • Select, acquire, and maintain PSAs and public affairs content and obtain legal clearances and usage rights as necessary.
  • • Monitor network and agency feeds for advisories concerning daily schedules, public service content, emergency information, or program changes.
  • • Develop promotions and cross-platform campaigns for public service initiatives and specials.
  • • Prepare copy and edit audio/video so that PSAs and public affairs material are ready for broadcasting and digital distribution.
  • • Develop ideas for community-focused programs, town halls, and features the station could produce.
  • • Plan and execute community outreach, partnerships, and station-led public service campaigns and events.
  • • Review public service schedules and campaign details for accuracy, maintain the station’s online public inspection file and quarterly issues/programs reports, and share updates with media and partners.
  • • Voice or record PSAs, public service, and promotional announcements, or perform other on-air community affairs duties as needed.
  • • Operate and maintain on-air and production audio/video equipment for public service content.
  • • Direct setup of remote facilities for community events and install or cancel public service feeds at remote sites.
  • • Cue hosts, guests, and performers for public affairs programs and live events.
  • • Conduct interviews with community leaders and subject-matter experts for broadcasts and digital content.
  • • Act as a liaison between talent and community organizations, preparing guests for appearances and communicating relevant information to directors and staff.
