Description
Leads the MRI quality assurance program to ensure consistent image quality, MR safety, and regulatory compliance. Oversees equipment performance verification, protocol standardization, accreditation activities, and documentation. Coordinates staff training and corrective actions to optimize safety, workflow, and diagnostic reliability.
  • • Develop and maintain MRI QA policies, SOPs, and checklists.
  • • Perform and document routine phantom scans and QC tests per ACR and manufacturer guidelines.
  • • Oversee calibration verification of MRI consoles, gradients, RF systems, and coils.
  • • Audit images and exam logs for quality, artifacts, and protocol adherence.
  • • Standardize and validate imaging protocols and coil selections with radiologists and physicists.
  • • Coordinate ACR accreditation activities, including phantom submissions and site surveys.
  • • Investigate artifacts and technical issues and implement corrective actions.
  • • Schedule and track preventive maintenance, service visits, and system downtimes.
  • • Validate software upgrades and hardware changes before clinical deployment.
  • • Train technologists on QA procedures, MR safety practices, and protocol updates.
  • • Conduct MR safety audits of screening, zone controls, and ferromagnetic detection processes.
  • • Verify safe function and MRI compatibility of physiological monitors, injectors, and ancillary devices.
  • • Monitor and standardize contrast administration protocols and adverse event documentation.
  • • Review order-to-protocol mapping and exam naming for accuracy and consistency.
  • • Verify DICOM metadata, PACS routing, and image archiving; perform test backups and restores.
  • • Maintain QA logs, test records, and performance dashboards for regulatory compliance.
  • • Manage inventory of QA phantoms, coils, safety equipment, and critical supplies.
  • • Prepare for and support inspections by ACR, Joint Commission, and internal auditors.
  • • Write and present QA reports, metrics, and recommendations to clinical leadership.
  • • Collaborate on workflow improvements to enhance patient comfort, communication, and throughput.
  • • Conduct root-cause analyses for repeat scans and quality variances.
  • • Ensure compliance with MRI safety training and credentialing for staff and contractors.
  • • Maintain incident logs for safety events, near-misses, and power or cryogen events and coordinate follow-up.
  • • Benchmark performance against internal targets and external standards to drive continuous improvement.
