Description
Oversee daily operations of a repair and service shop, supervising technicians and coordinating maintenance, installation, and repair work. Manage scheduling, quality, safety, customer communication, budgeting, inventory, and vendor relations.
- • Set daily and weekly shop schedules and job assignments based on priority, workload, and technician skills.
- • Monitor technician productivity and quality; review work performance.
- • Assess equipment, vehicles, or systems to determine required installations, services, or repairs.
- • Prepare and manage shop budgets; coordinate purchasing and track expenditures.
- • Coach and counsel employees; address performance and skill gaps.
- • Order parts, tools, and supplies; manage stock levels and purchase orders.
- • Create job estimates and track actual labor, parts, and subcontractor costs.
- • Interpret OEM specifications, service manuals, and work orders to guide work.
- • Provide or arrange training on safety, repair methods, diagnostics, and equipment use.
- • Investigate accidents, near-misses, or injuries; document findings and corrective actions.
- • Coordinate work with management, customers, vendors, and other departments to resolve issues and align schedules.
- • Recommend and execute personnel actions, including hiring, promotions, scheduling, and discipline.
- • Perform advanced diagnostics or repairs when needed to meet deadlines or quality standards.
- • Maintain operational records, including work orders, timekeeping, inventory, and service history.
- • Develop, implement, and enforce shop policies, SOPs, and maintenance procedures.
- • Inspect and test completed work to verify compliance with standards and warranty requirements.
- • Meet with vendors and suppliers to review products, negotiate pricing, and address quality issues.
- • Implement and administer the shop’s maintenance or service management software.
- • Plan shop layout or equipment configurations to improve workflow and meet personnel needs.
- • Monitor tool condition, calibration, and inventory; ensure facilities and bays are safe and well maintained.
- • Conduct safety meetings and audits; correct hazards and ensure regulatory compliance.
- • Evaluate contractor bids for outsourced work and coordinate completion.
