Description
Directly supervise and coordinate maintenance and repair of fleet vehicles and equipment. Lead technicians, set priorities and schedules to maximize uptime, safety, and compliance, control costs and quality, and interface with drivers, operations, and vendors.
  • • Plan preventive maintenance and repair schedules, sequences, and assignments based on asset priority, availability, and technician skills.
  • • Monitor technician workload, productivity, and quality; conduct performance reviews.
  • • Inspect vehicles and analyze diagnostics, telematics, and service history to determine needed repairs or services.
  • • Prepare and administer the fleet maintenance budget; coordinate purchasing and track spend.
  • • Coach and counsel employees on work issues and skill gaps; create improvement plans.
  • • Requisition parts, tires, fluids, tools, and replacement equipment.
  • • Estimate and track repair costs, labor hours, parts usage, and outside services.
  • • Interpret OEM manuals, wiring diagrams, and repair orders; lay out work for technicians.
  • • Arrange and deliver training on safety, PM procedures, diagnostics, and equipment use.
  • • Investigate vehicle incidents, breakdowns, or shop injuries and document findings.
  • • Coordinate work with operations, dispatch, safety, procurement, and drivers to meet service needs.
  • • Recommend and execute hires, promotions, scheduling changes, and disciplinary actions.
  • • Perform advanced diagnostics or repairs when needed using hand and power tools and shop equipment.
  • • Maintain complete maintenance records, mileage and DOT inspection data, warranties, and compliance documents.
  • • Develop, implement, and audit fleet maintenance policies, PM programs, and SOPs.
  • • Inspect and test completed repairs; verify roadworthiness and compliance with standards.
  • • Meet with dealers, vendors, and suppliers to review parts, services, and warranties.
  • • Implement and manage the CMMS and integrate telematics or electronic inspection programs.
  • • Specify vehicle and upfit configurations and shop equipment to meet operational needs.
  • • Monitor parts and tool inventories and maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop.
  • • Enforce OSHA/DOT safety practices; identify hazards and correct unsafe conditions.
  • • Source, review, and coordinate outside repair bids; manage vendor performance.
