HVAC Supervisor (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Supervisor)

Description
Directly supervise and coordinate HVAC technicians and installers performing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration installation, service, and maintenance. Ensure schedule adherence, quality, safety, and code compliance, and advise customers on recommended services and energy-efficiency options. Excludes team or work leaders.
  • • Schedule and assign HVAC installation, service, and preventive maintenance based on priorities, equipment counts, and technician skills.
  • • Monitor technicians' workloads and review performance and quality.
  • • Inspect HVAC systems and facilities to determine needed installations, repairs, or services.
  • • Assist with budgets; coordinate purchasing, documentation, and monitor HVAC department expenditures.
  • • Coach technicians on work issues and remediate HVAC skill gaps.
  • • Requisition HVAC parts, materials, refrigerants, tools, and replacement units.
  • • Prepare estimates and track actual costs for labor, materials, and subcontractors.
  • • Read and interpret mechanical plans, wiring diagrams, and job orders to lay out HVAC work.
  • • Provide or arrange training in HVAC safety, diagnostics, maintenance, start-up, and equipment use.
  • • Investigate job-site incidents or injuries and complete required reports.
  • • Coordinate with customers, building management, engineers, and contractors to plan work and resolve issues.
  • • Recommend or initiate hiring, promotions, transfers, discipline, or terminations.
  • • Perform advanced HVAC diagnostics, start-ups, or repairs when needed, including brazing, evacuation, and commissioning.
  • • Maintain records such as time sheets, work orders, inventory, PM logs, and test or commissioning results.
  • • Develop, implement, and evaluate HVAC preventive maintenance programs and SOPs.
  • • Inspect and verify completed HVAC work using gauges, meters, airflow tools, and combustion analyzers to meet standards and codes.
  • • Meet with vendors and suppliers about HVAC equipment, controls, and service products.
  • • Implement or improve CMMS and dispatch tools and digital maintenance documentation for HVAC operations.
  • • Review and recommend HVAC equipment selections, configurations, and control settings to meet load, comfort, and code requirements.
  • • Track tool and parts inventories and maintain shop conditions, calibration, and serviceability of HVAC tools and equipment.
  • • Inspect job sites and tools and deliver safety training to prevent and correct unsafe conditions or violations.
  • • Review, evaluate, accept, and coordinate completion of contractor bids for HVAC, sheet metal, and controls work.
