Supervise and coordinate Environmental Services (EVS) operations in healthcare settings to maintain a safe, sanitary, and compliant environment through effective staff leadership, infection prevention practices, timely room turnover, and quality service delivery.
- • Oversee linen distribution, par levels, and coordination with on-site or outsourced laundry.
- • Update bed status in tracking systems and notify clinical staff when rooms are ready.
- • Assist with budgeting, cost control initiatives, and vendor management for EVS services.
- • Prepare reports on room turns, quality audits, staffing, waste volumes, and expenses.
- • Ensure EVS equipment is cleaned, maintained, and removed from service when unsafe.
- • Manage regulated medical waste, sharps, and biohazard handling per OSHA, EPA, and state rules.
- • Lead infection prevention cleaning protocols, including isolation and terminal cleaning in patient care areas.
- • Inspect cleaning outcomes and processes to ensure compliance with hospital standards and regulations.
- • Create and adjust EVS staff schedules, assignments, and break coverage.
- • Assist with priority cleans and discharge room turnovers when needed.
- • Investigate service complaints or equipment issues and implement corrective actions.
- • Coordinate with Nursing, Bed Control, Facilities, and Infection Prevention to meet turnaround times.
- • Assess unit and public area conditions to determine cleaning scope, frequency, and project needs.
- • Select and enforce use of approved disinfectants, tools, and methods for varied surfaces and risk levels.
- • Train staff on SOPs, PPE, hand hygiene, chemical safety, and equipment operation.
- • Distribute carts, keys, supplies, and equipment at shift start and collect at shift end.
- • Forecast staffing and supply needs based on census, acuity, and seasonal trends.
- • Monitor and maintain inventory of chemicals, paper goods, liners, microfiber, and PPE.
- • Conduct performance evaluations and recommend coaching, recognition, or HR actions.
- • Coach staff, resolve conflicts, and communicate policy updates and safety expectations.
- • Implement and audit EVS standards, quality assurance checklists, and work routines.
- • Submit work orders and coordinate with Facilities or vendors for repairs and room readiness.
- • Recommend and order EVS equipment, supplies, and replacement tools.
- • Identify process improvements to reduce room turnaround time and improve patient experience scores.
- • Maintain records for staffing, bed-tracking metrics, inspections, training, and departmental budgets.
- • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and orientation of EVS staff.
