Description
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in environmental science and lead research programs. Includes faculty focused on teaching as well as those balancing teaching, scholarship, and service.
  • • Supervise and mentor undergraduate and graduate research, teaching, and internship work.
  • • Lead original research in environmental science and publish in peer-reviewed journals, books, or digital media.
  • • Stay current in the field through literature review, collaboration, and professional conferences.
  • • Evaluate and grade coursework, laboratory work, assignments, and papers.
  • • Write competitive grant proposals to secure external research funding.
  • • Oversee students’ laboratory and fieldwork, ensuring safety and data quality.
  • • Prepare course materials, including syllabi, assignments, and learning resources.
  • • Design, assess, and revise curricula, course content, and instructional methods.
  • • Facilitate engaging classroom discussions and active learning.
  • • Develop, administer, and grade examinations, delegating as appropriate.
  • • Advise students on academic pathways, research opportunities, and career options.
  • • Deliver lectures and labs on topics such as climate change, ecosystem science, environmental toxicology, and waste management.
  • • Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and other required records.
  • • Select and procure textbooks, software, instruments, and laboratory supplies.
  • • Hold regular office hours to advise and assist students.
  • • Collaborate with colleagues on teaching initiatives and multidisciplinary research.
  • • Perform departmental and university service, including leadership roles when needed.
  • • Support student recruitment, orientation, and placement activities.
  • • Provide consulting or expert advice to government, nonprofits, or industry.
  • • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees and faculty governance bodies.
  • • Compile and update bibliographies and reading lists for courses and independent study.
  • • Engage in campus, community, and outreach events to promote environmental literacy.
  • • Advise and mentor student organizations and clubs.
  • • Review manuscripts and grant proposals and serve on editorial boards when invited.
  • • Write letters of recommendation for students and research trainees.
