Description
Conduct residential energy ratings by inspecting and testing building envelopes and systems, modeling energy performance, and issuing HERS Index scores and program or code compliance documentation.
- • Perform blower door and duct leakage tests to verify air tightness.
- • Inspect and grade insulation installation and R-values per RESNET standards.
- • Verify window and door U-factor, SHGC, and installation details.
- • Collect field data on envelopes, HVAC, water heating, and appliances for modeling.
- • Build energy models and calculate HERS Index or equivalent ratings.
- • Prepare rating reports, certificates, and compliance documentation.
- • Verify compliance with IECC, ENERGY STAR, and other program requirements.
- • Identify and prioritize upgrades to meet target ratings or incentives.
- • Conduct pre-drywall and final inspections to confirm air barriers and insulation.
- • Use manometers, duct testers, flow hoods, infrared cameras, and light meters.
- • Test ventilation airflow and fan performance to ASHRAE 62.2 or program specs.
- • Review Manual J/S/D documentation and verify HVAC sizing and efficiency.
- • Document findings with photos and digital forms; maintain accurate records.
- • Communicate results and recommendations to builders, contractors, and owners.
- • Coordinate testing schedules and resolve deficiencies with project teams.
- • Compare modeled energy use to benchmarks and program targets.
- • Flag health, safety, or moisture risks observed during inspections.
- • Confirm proper installation and performance of energy-efficient equipment.
- • Maintain, calibrate, and field-check test equipment.
- • Support QA/QC processes and respond to file audits.
- • Recommend energy-efficient technologies or design strategies.
- • Estimate energy and cost impacts of proposed measures using approved models.
