Description
Install, cable, and maintain stage and event lighting and power systems for theaters, concerts, and live productions. Hang, circuit, focus, and troubleshoot fixtures, dimmers, distro, and control networks in compliance with codes and show safety. Support rehearsals and performances and may service followspots, practicals, effects, and temporary power for AV or scenery.
  • • Read light plots and paperwork to plan power, circuiting, and network layout per venue codes.
  • • Hang, clamp, safety, and focus conventional and moving fixtures on battens, truss, and towers.
  • • Assemble, install, and maintain dimmer racks, power distribution, and lighting control consoles.
  • • Run and terminate feeder, stage pin/Edison/PowerCON, DMX/RDM, Ethernet, and fiber; label and test.
  • • Perform tie-ins to company switches or generators under local code and venue policy.
  • • Connect and address fixtures, drivers, ballasts, and accessories such as hazers and strobes.
  • • Program, patch, or operate lighting consoles for setup, checkouts, and show support.
  • • Diagnose and repair faults in fixtures, cabling, distro, and control networks using meters and testers.
  • • Inspect rigging points, battens, cords, and connectors for hazards; enforce LOTO, NEC, and OSHA compliance.
  • • Test continuity, load balance, grounding, phase, voltage, and data integrity.
  • • Advise stage or production management on equipment condition, load capacity, and safe operation.
  • • Lead, train, and direct electrics crews during load-ins, focus calls, show runs, and strikes.
  • • Maintain inventory, paperwork, and maintenance logs; track rentals and consumables.
  • • Fabricate or repair cables, adapters, and practical lighting to specifications.
  • • Install, power, and cable followspots, practicals, audience lights, and worklights.
  • • Provide temporary power for audio, video, special effects, and backline with department coordination.
  • • Work at heights on lifts, ladders, catwalks, and grids; practice fall protection and safe lifting.
  • • Keep work areas neat with proper cable management, heat management, and egress clearance.
  • • Respond to show emergencies and power failures; perform safe shutdown and startup procedures.
  • • Maintain required licenses or certifications (e.g., ETCP, OSHA 10/30) per venue or jurisdiction.
