Description
Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. Ensure all work complies with the National Electrical Code and local regulations. May install or service street lighting, intercoms, generators, or electrical control systems.
- • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical wiring, equipment, appliances, and fixtures using hand and power tools.
- • Diagnose and repair malfunctioning systems and components with test equipment and hand tools.
- • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, panels, and other components.
- • Inspect electrical systems and components to identify hazards, defects, or needed repairs and ensure code compliance.
- • Advise clients or supervisors when continued equipment operation is hazardous.
- • Test systems and circuit continuity with ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes to verify safety and compatibility.
- • Maintain a current electrician license and required identification.
- • Plan layouts and installations based on job specifications and local codes.
- • Direct or train apprentices or helpers in installation, maintenance, and repair tasks.
- • Prepare sketches and follow blueprints to locate wiring and equipment per building and safety codes.
- • Use power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing instruments such as ammeters or test lamps.
- • Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment such as motors and control panels.
- • Maintain records, prepare reports, and order supplies or equipment as needed.
- • Repair or replace wiring, equipment, or fixtures using appropriate tools and materials.
- • Work from ladders, scaffolds, lifts, or roofs to install, maintain, or repair electrical systems.
- • Place conduit, pipes, or tubing in designated areas and pull wires or cables to complete circuits.
- • Mount boxes to house electrical switches, outlets, or junctions.
- • Perform physically demanding tasks such as trenching for conduit and moving or lifting heavy objects.
- • Provide preliminary sketches or cost estimates for materials and labor.
- • Assist during emergencies by operating generators or floodlights, placing flares, or driving needed vehicles.
- • Fabricate or modify parts with hand tools according to specifications.
