Description
Install, maintain, and repair industrial electrical power and control systems in plants and manufacturing facilities. Ensure work complies with NEC, NFPA 70E, and site safety standards. May install or service motors, VFDs, PLCs, and switchgear to support production.
- • Install, maintain, and repair 3-phase power distribution, MCCs, and switchgear.
- • Diagnose faults in motors, drives, PLC I/O, sensors, and control circuits using test equipment.
- • Wire and terminate feeders, branch circuits, and control wiring to panels, MCC buckets, and field devices.
- • Inspect industrial electrical systems to identify hazards, defects, or needed repairs and verify code compliance.
- • Advise supervisors when continued operation of equipment is unsafe.
- • Test circuits and equipment using multimeters, clamp meters, megohmmeters, or oscilloscopes to verify integrity and safety.
- • Perform lockout/tagout and arc-flash safety procedures; verify absence of voltage per NFPA 70E.
- • Plan layouts for conduit, cable tray, and equipment based on prints, one-lines, and job specs.
- • Read and update electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and P&IDs.
- • Direct or train maintenance personnel or contractors on safe installation and repair practices.
- • Install and commission VFDs, soft starters, and motor protection devices.
- • Install ground conductors and bond equipment; connect power to motors, heaters, and industrial machinery.
- • Execute preventive and predictive maintenance, including IR scans, torque checks, and cleaning.
- • Repair or replace damaged cables, connectors, breakers, contactors, and sensors.
- • Run conduit, tray, or tubing and pull and label conductors to complete circuits between junction boxes and equipment.
- • Fabricate and mount control panels, junction boxes, and instrument enclosures.
- • Perform physically demanding work, including climbing, lifting, and occasional trenching for underground conduit.
- • Provide cost and material estimates; requisition parts and maintain inventory records.
- • Support equipment installs, moves, startups, and commissioning activities.
- • Respond to breakdowns and emergencies; operate generators or temporary power as needed.
- • Use CMMS to document work orders, findings, and parts used.
- • Maintain a current electrician's license or industrial certifications as required by regulations.
