Description
Research, design, develop, test, and oversee installation and commissioning of interior and exterior lighting and control systems for buildings, sites, and public spaces, ensuring performance, aesthetics, safety, and energy code compliance.
- • Confer with architects, electrical engineers, contractors, and clients to define lighting objectives and constraints.
- • Design interior and exterior lighting and control systems for commercial, industrial, institutional, and public spaces.
- • Use AGi32, Dialux/Relux, Revit, and CAD tools to perform photometric studies and produce documentation.
- • Coordinate procurement, installation, aiming, and commissioning of luminaires and controls to meet codes and specifications.
- • Perform photometric, lighting power density, and load calculations to establish system requirements and specifications.
- • Research and test luminaires, optics, drivers, sensors, and control algorithms for efficacy, glare, flicker, color quality, and reliability.
- • Prepare performance-based specifications, fixture schedules, cut sheets, and control sequences of operation.
- • Supervise or mentor junior lighting staff and provide guidance to CAD/BIM teams and field crews.
- • Evaluate vendor submittals, samples, and mock-ups for compliance and quality.
- • Oversee design deliverables, schedules, and budgets to keep lighting projects on track.
- • Produce lighting layouts, circuiting plans, control risers, panel schedules, and details per IES recommendations and client requirements.
- • Develop retrofit scopes and capital plans for lighting upgrades and life-cycle replacements.
- • Compile photometric studies, code compliance narratives, and lighting design reports.
- • Gather site, task, and occupancy data to set target illuminance, lighting power density, and control zoning.
- • Conduct lighting audits and field measurements to diagnose issues such as poor uniformity, glare, flicker, or sensor misplacement.
- • Design energy-efficient solutions, including daylight harvesting, tunable white, and demand-response strategies.
- • Develop off-grid or solar-powered lighting solutions where applicable.
- • Integrate lighting and controls with building automation and energy management systems via BACnet, DALI, DMX, or similar protocols.
- • Prepare detailed cost estimates and value-engineering proposals for lighting equipment and installation.
- • Investigate occupant or client complaints and recommend corrective actions.
- • Program, test, and document networked lighting control systems and software.
- • Inspect and commission completed lighting installations to verify performance, as-builts, and safety and energy code compliance.
