Description
Plan, coordinate, and edit written material through all production stages for print and digital release. Manage schedules, proofs, and vendor workflows, ensuring accuracy, style compliance, and on-time, on-budget publication.
- • Prepare, rewrite, and edit copy to improve clarity and consistency during production.
- • Proofread and mark up pages to correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, and layout errors.
- • Allocate and manage page extents, folios, and layout flow per specifications.
- • Build and maintain production schedules, trackers, and milestones.
- • Verify facts, figures, captions, and references using standard sources.
- • Review and approve page, galley, and color proofs before release.
- • Coordinate copyediting, proofreading, indexing, and permissions workflows.
- • Oversee typesetting, artwork placement, and layout to meet deadlines and budgets.
- • Liaise with authors, editors, designers, and vendors to resolve production issues.
- • Assign and manage work for freelancers such as copy editors and proofreaders.
- • Evaluate manuscripts and assets for production readiness and request fixes.
- • Ensure complete, accurate use of images, tables, charts, and supplementary materials.
- • Track and report production status, risks, and variances to stakeholders.
- • Negotiate schedules, deliverables, and rates with freelancers and vendors.
- • Enforce house style, templates, accessibility, and metadata requirements.
- • Secure and track copyright permissions, credits, and image licenses.
- • Create or coordinate indexes, tables of contents, and front/back matter.
- • Prepare and deliver print-ready and digital files (PDF, EPUB, XML) to vendors.
- • Preflight and package files; check image resolution, fonts, and color profiles.
- • Maintain version control, change logs, and proof rounds documentation.
- • Arrange final sign-offs and coordinate print, eBook, and online release.
