Description
Conduct research, prepare reports, and develop plans to address economic issues in agriculture and food systems, including production, distribution, trade, resource use, and policy. Collect and analyze farm and market data using surveys, sampling techniques, and econometric methods.
  • • Study agricultural economic and statistical data on crops, livestock, inputs, prices, trade, and land use.
  • • Advise farmers, agribusinesses, cooperatives, and agencies on market conditions and farm management economics.
  • • Compile, analyze, and report data to explain agricultural markets and forecast prices, yields, and farm income using econometric models.
  • • Formulate recommendations and policies on commodity programs, crop insurance, risk management, and supply chain resilience.
  • • Develop farm budgets, cost benchmarks, and guidelines used in forecasting trends and shaping agricultural policy.
  • • Testify on farm, trade, environmental, and rural policies, presenting cost-benefit and distributional analyses.
  • • Lead and mentor agricultural economics research projects and student or extension studies.
  • • Forecast production, consumption, and resource use for crops, livestock, water, and agricultural inputs.
  • • Teach agricultural economics, policy, and quantitative methods.
  • • Provide litigation support on commodity pricing, land valuation, water rights, or agribusiness competition.
  • • Assess socioeconomic impacts of agricultural policies, tariffs, labor rules, and environmental or food safety regulations.
  • • Conduct research on farm and food system issues and disseminate findings through journals, policy briefs, and extension reports.
  • • Communicate the economic impacts of agricultural policies and market shifts to producers and the public.
  • • Review grant proposals, market analyses, and technical documents for methodological and policy rigor.
