Description
Lead and oversee a congregation’s religious education programs for all ages; design curricula, train instructors, coordinate classes and events, and conduct outreach to grow participation. Collaborate with clergy and lay leaders, provide guidance to families, and manage budgets, materials, and program administration in line with denominational standards.
  • • Identify and recruit volunteer teachers, aides, and program leaders.
  • • Train, mentor, and supervise religious education instructors and volunteers.
  • • Design and direct age-appropriate religious education programs and courses.
  • • Select and adapt curricula, lesson plans, and class structures.
  • • Procure materials, schedule speakers, reserve space, and manage logistics.
  • • Provide guidance to learners and families; refer to pastoral or community care as needed.
  • • Analyze participation and congregational priorities to assess education needs.
  • • Partner with clergy and ministry leaders to set goals and grow participation.
  • • Plan and schedule retreats, camps, seminars, and family faith events.
  • • Engage clergy, boards, and committees to secure support for education initiatives.
  • • Promote programs through bulletins, newsletters, social media, and the website.
  • • Develop and manage education budgets; analyze costs and revenues to set priorities.
  • • Attend workshops and conferences to bring in ideas and resources.
  • • Curate and distribute teaching resources, media, and curricula.
  • • Participate in denominational networks and interfaith education initiatives.
  • • Plan or lead forums on theology, scripture, and faith practices.
  • • Conduct outreach to families, including home or virtual visits, to share information and support.
  • • Represent the education program through talks, discussions, and written communications.
  • • Coordinate fundraising or grant efforts to support religious education.
