Description
Specializes in the surgical management of skin, hair, and nail diseases, including cutaneous oncology, reconstructive, and cosmetic procedures, while providing comprehensive pre- and postoperative care in collaboration with dermatopathology and other specialists.
- • Perform surgical excision of benign and malignant skin lesions with appropriate margins.
- • Conduct Mohs micrographic surgery and coordinate intraoperative pathology when indicated.
- • Perform shave, punch, and excisional biopsies to establish diagnoses.
- • Plan and execute reconstructive closures, including flaps and grafts.
- • Provide laser surgery, dermabrasion, and scar revision procedures.
- • Evaluate candidates for cosmetic procedures such as liposuction, laser resurfacing, and chemical peels, and obtain informed consent.
- • Administer local and tumescent anesthesia and maintain sterile technique.
- • Manage preoperative evaluation, risk assessment, and surgical planning.
- • Provide postoperative wound care, suture removal, and manage complications.
- • Prescribe perioperative and adjunct therapies such as antibiotics, analgesics, retinoids, and intralesional steroids.
- • Conduct complete skin examinations and map lesions for surgery.
- • Order and interpret dermatopathology, imaging, and labs to guide treatment.
- • Counsel patients on skin cancer prevention, sun protection, and surveillance.
- • Perform curettage, electrosurgery, and cryosurgery for appropriate lesions.
- • Document histories, informed consent, operative notes, and outcomes in the medical record.
- • Provide surgical consultation to other health professionals.
- • Refer patients to oncology, plastic surgery, or other specialists as needed.
- • Teach residents or fellows dermatologic surgery techniques and perioperative care.
- • Participate in clinical research and quality improvement in cutaneous surgery.
- • Maintain competency through literature review, CME, and professional conferences.
