Description
Create accurate stone and digital dental models from impressions and bite records, mount them on articulators, and prepare dies to support fabrication of crowns, bridges, dentures, and orthodontic appliances.
- • Review prescriptions, impressions, bite records, and digital files to determine model and articulation requirements.
- • Inspect incoming impressions or scans for defects and request reimpressions when necessary.
- • Mix and pour dental stone or plaster to create casts, bases, and dies.
- • Trim and finish casts using model trimmers and hand tools; label and document case details.
- • Pin, section, and ditch dies to expose margins; apply die hardener and spacer per protocol.
- • Fabricate and index model bases; install dowel pins and sleeves for removable dies.
- • Mount upper and lower models on articulators using bite registrations and facebow records.
- • Verify occlusion, vertical dimension, and accuracy of mountings using articulators and gauges.
- • Repair voids, chipped areas, or low spots on models using stone or resin.
- • Create custom impression trays and baseplates when requested.
- • Prepare wax bite rims and record bases as indicated by the prescription.
- • Scan impressions or models for digital workflows and prepare STL files and digital articulations.
- • Maintain and calibrate articulators, model trimmers, and related equipment.
- • Stage, package, and protect models for downstream departments; communicate case issues promptly.
- • Train or assist other model technicians and bench workers in model room procedures.
