Description
Fabricate, finish, and repair metal frameworks for crowns, bridges, implant restorations, and removable partial dentures; perform waxing, investing, casting, finishing, and preparation for porcelain to ensure precise fit and occlusion.
- • Read prescriptions and examine models, digital scans, and dies to plan metal framework designs.
- • Mount casts on articulators to evaluate contacts and occlusion.
- • Wax-up and contour copings, bridge frameworks, RPD frameworks, and implant bars to specifications.
- • Attach sprues, invest patterns, and manage burnout cycles.
- • Cast base metal or noble alloys using centrifugal or induction casting equipment.
- • De-vest, cut and remove sprues, and sandblast to clean and texture metal surfaces.
- • Finish margins, contacts, and contours using rotary instruments, stones, and carbides.
- • Measure thickness and fit with micrometers and calipers; verify on dies and models.
- • Check occlusion and function on articulators and adjust as needed.
- • Prepare metal for porcelain by degassing, oxide control, and creating mechanical retention.
- • Solder or laser weld sections and joints; straighten or align frameworks.
- • Repair and modify metal frameworks, clasps, connectors, and implant bars.
- • Polish frameworks to prescribed finish; electro-polish when indicated.
- • Maintain and calibrate casting machines, burnout ovens, sandblasters, and dust collection; follow safety protocols.
- • Document case parameters and alloy usage; label and track components.
- • Communicate with dentists and CAD/CAM teams about design or fit issues.
- • Train and mentor junior technicians in metal room procedures and standards.
