Description
Manage global import and export operations by ensuring regulatory compliance, optimizing trade flows, and coordinating cross-border logistics. Prepare and review trade documentation, classify goods, determine and track duties and taxes, and coordinate activities with brokers, forwarders, and carriers. Advise on Incoterms and regulatory requirements, secure licenses and certificates, pursue refunds and reclassifications, and liaise with government agencies to mitigate risk and reduce cost.
- • Prepare and process import and export documentation in accordance with regulations and company procedures.
- • Classify products under the Harmonized System and determine applicable duties, taxes, and trade measures.
- • Calculate landed costs and quote duty and tax rates for proposed shipments.
- • Coordinate customs clearance and final delivery with customs brokers and freight forwarders.
- • Advise internal teams on Incoterms, shipping modes, carriers, and routing options.
- • Compile certificates of origin, commercial invoices, packing lists, and other required documents.
- • Obtain import and export licenses, permits, and other government authorizations.
- • Apply free trade agreement qualifications and maintain origin documentation.
- • Identify and execute duty-savings opportunities, including tariff engineering, FTZs, drawback, and refunds.
- • Prepare and file protests, reclassifications, and duty refund claims.
- • Monitor shipment status, customs entries, and holds; resolve exceptions to expedite release.
- • Coordinate payment or reconciliation of duties, taxes, and fees, and ensure appropriate customs bonds are maintained.
- • Maintain and manage relationships with customs brokers, forwarders, and carriers worldwide.
- • Conduct restricted party screening and ensure compliance with sanctions and export controls.
- • Assign ECCN or other export control classifications and advise on licensing requirements.
- • Develop and maintain trade compliance policies, SOPs, and training.
- • Stay current on global trade regulations, tariff changes, and trade remedy actions.
- • Liaise with customs and partner government agencies to facilitate clearance and resolve issues.
- • Manage participation in trusted trader and expedited release programs (e.g., C-TPAT, AEO).
- • Advise on labeling, country-of-origin marking, and packaging requirements for target markets.
- • Audit customs entries and records; remediate discrepancies and support internal or external audits.
- • Analyze trade data and report KPIs, risks, and savings opportunities to stakeholders.
- • Support contract reviews for trade terms, Incoterms, and trade finance instruments such as letters of credit.
- • Plan transportation, warehousing, distribution, and cargo insurance strategies to optimize cost, duty, and service.
