Customs Brokers
Description
Manage end-to-end import and export operations by preparing and processing trade documentation, ensuring regulatory compliance, and coordinating customs clearance, logistics, and duty/tax payments. Liaise with customs brokers, carriers, and government agencies; classify products, calculate landed costs, and support duty recovery and tariff programs while managing transportation and storage to meet service and compliance goals.
  • • Prepare and process import and export documentation in compliance with regulations.
  • • Classify goods under HTS and Schedule B and maintain product master data.
  • • Estimate landed costs, duties, and taxes based on tariff schedules and trade agreements.
  • • Calculate duties, taxes, and fees for entries and shipments.
  • • Coordinate customs clearance with brokers and agencies; resolve holds and inspections.
  • • Select and manage freight forwarders, carriers, and customs brokers.
  • • Arrange transportation, warehousing, and final delivery of goods.
  • • Monitor and trace shipments to ensure on-time delivery.
  • • Compile commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, and other required documents.
  • • Prepare and file Electronic Export Information (EEI) via AES when required.
  • • Conduct denied party screening and embargo checks for transactions.
  • • Manage import and export licenses, permits, and exemptions.
  • • Arrange customs bonds and cargo insurance; file claims as needed.
  • • Recommend packaging, labeling, and documentation best practices.
  • • Maintain relationships with ports, terminals, and service providers to expedite cargo.
  • • Advise stakeholders on trade restrictions, quotas, sanctions, and insurance requirements.
  • • Recommend duty-reduction strategies, including free trade agreements, tariff reclassification, and duty drawback.
  • • Prepare post-entry corrections, protests, and duty refund claims with brokers.
  • • Stay current on changes in customs and export control laws and programs.
  • • Obtain line releases or entry programs for frequent, low-risk shipments with brokers.
  • • Ensure accurate recordkeeping and audit-ready files per regulatory and company policies.
  • • Provide guidance on Incoterms, carrier selection, and optimal shipping routes.
  • • Arrange payment of customs duties, taxes, and fees.
