Description
Use verbatim stenographic and recording methods to capture, preserve, and transcribe court proceedings, hearings, and depositions; produce certified transcripts and maintain official records in accordance with court rules.
  • • Use a stenotype or shorthand machine to capture verbatim testimony.
  • • Record trials, hearings, and depositions with electronic stenographic or recording equipment.
  • • Ask speakers to clarify inaudible or overlapping statements.
  • • Respond to in-court requests to read back portions of the record.
  • • Transcribe proceedings in required court formats.
  • • Provide certified transcripts to judges, attorneys, and authorized requesters.
  • • File official transcripts with the court clerk.
  • • File and securely store stenographic notes and audio backups.
  • • Record depositions and other legal proceedings for attorneys.
  • • Verify transcript accuracy against original notes and rulings, confirming with judges as needed.
  • • Use computer-aided transcription to translate stenographic notes into text.
  • • Proofread and edit transcripts for spelling, punctuation, and formatting.
  • • Log and maintain custody of exhibits entered into the record.
  • • Prepare or type court orders for judges when requested.
