Description
Lead Jewish worship and perform religious functions in accordance with Jewish tradition and communal practice. Provide spiritual, pastoral, and ethical guidance to individuals and families, teach Torah and Jewish law, and support the educational and communal life of the congregation.
- • Pray and cultivate Jewish spiritual practice within the community.
- • Read and teach from Torah, Prophets, Writings, and rabbinic texts.
- • Prepare and deliver divrei Torah, sermons, and lectures.
- • Lead or co-lead Shabbat, festival, and High Holy Day services.
- • Share Jewish perspectives through teaching, writing, and public speaking.
- • Guide and instruct individuals pursuing conversion to Judaism.
- • Provide pastoral counseling on spiritual, emotional, and personal matters.
- • Visit congregants at home, in hospitals, or in prisons to offer support and prayer.
- • Mentor and train lay leaders, youth leaders, and volunteers.
- • Officiate life-cycle rituals in accordance with Jewish law and custom.
- • Study, interpret, and apply Jewish law, ethics, and tradition to contemporary issues.
- • Conduct weddings, funerals, baby namings, unveilings, and bar/bat/b'nai mitzvah ceremonies.
- • Respond to emergencies with pastoral care and crisis support.
- • Develop strategies to engage, welcome, and grow synagogue membership.
- • Collaborate with boards and committees on policy, finance, and administration.
- • Prepare individuals for participation in rituals, including b'nai mitzvah training and honors.
- • Perform administrative duties, including building oversight, ordering supplies, contracting services, and supervising staff or volunteers.
- • Refer congregants to community resources, mental health professionals, or medical providers.
- • Lead or support fundraising to sustain programs and facilities.
- • Plan and oversee Jewish education for children, teens, and adults.
- • Build interfaith and community partnerships and represent the synagogue in civic life.
