Description
Provide school-based social work services that support students’ social, emotional, and behavioral health, strengthen family–school collaboration, and remove barriers to learning. Assess needs, deliver counseling and interventions, coordinate community resources, and advise educators to improve attendance, behavior, and academic success while ensuring student safety and legal compliance.
- • Interview and assess students and families to identify strengths, needs, and risks.
- • Provide individual and group counseling addressing mental health, behavior, grief, stress, and substance use.
- • Develop, implement, and monitor student support, behavior, attendance, and safety plans.
- • Consult with teachers, counselors, and administrators to implement MTSS/RTI/PBIS interventions.
- • Collaborate with parents and guardians through meetings, home visits, and ongoing communication.
- • Address truancy and chronic absenteeism; create attendance improvement plans and coordinate with truancy processes.
- • Respond to crises; conduct risk screenings; create safety plans; coordinate crisis interventions.
- • Serve on IEP and 504 teams and provide social work input for evaluations, accommodations, and services.
- • Refer students and families to community resources for mental health, medical, housing, food, legal, and financial supports.
- • Make mandated reports of suspected abuse or neglect and coordinate with child protective services.
- • Maintain confidential case records and prepare required reports in compliance with FERPA and district policy.
- • Facilitate reentry and transition plans for students returning from hospitalization, suspension, or juvenile justice.
- • Arrange referrals for psychological, psychiatric, and other evaluations when indicated.
- • Lead preventive social-emotional learning groups and parent education workshops.
- • Advocate for students’ rights and equitable access to programs and services.
- • Mediate conflicts among students, families, and school staff to improve communication and outcomes.
- • Participate in student support, attendance, and MTSS data meetings to inform services.
- • Provide staff training on trauma-informed practices, behavior supports, and cultural responsiveness.
- • Build partnerships with community agencies and manage service coordination or MOUs.
- • Evaluate outcomes and adjust interventions; contribute to school policies and program development.
