Description
Construct and install structural wood and light-gauge frameworks for buildings, including floors, walls, roofs, and rough openings. Read plans, lay out and assemble studs, joists, rafters, trusses, and sheathing; set structures plumb, level, and square; and anchor assemblies to foundations. May install subfloors, exterior sheathing, house wrap, and temporary supports while coordinating with other trades and maintaining jobsite safety.
  • • Follow safety rules and maintain a clean, organized jobsite; use fall protection and PPE.
  • • Read and interpret blueprints and framing plans to determine layout, dimensions, and materials.
  • • Perform layout on slabs and decks using tape, chalk line, laser, and framing square.
  • • Measure, mark, and cut lumber or engineered components to specified dimensions.
  • • Assemble and erect wall, floor, and roof framing using nails, screws, and metal connectors.
  • • Install studs, plates, headers, blocking, firestopping, and bracing per code.
  • • Set joists, trusses, and rafters; plumb, square, and align structures.
  • • Install subfloors, wall and roof sheathing, and stair rough framing.
  • • Frame rough openings for windows, exterior doors, and mechanical penetrations.
  • • Install sill plates, anchor bolts, straps, and hold-downs to secure framing to foundations.
  • • Verify trueness and alignment using levels, lasers, and string lines.
  • • Apply house wrap, flashing, and weather-resistive barriers where required.
  • • Drill or bore holes for anchor bolts and fasteners in concrete or masonry as needed.
  • • Erect temporary bracing, shoring, scaffolding, and ladders for elevated work.
  • • Fasten materials with hand tools, nail guns, saws, and other power tools.
  • • Select, stage, and order framing lumber, sheathing, connectors, and hardware.
  • • Coordinate deliveries, cranes, or lifts for truss and material placement.
  • • Anchor and brace forms or temporary structures used during framing operations.
  • • Inspect framing for defects, damage, or misalignment and make corrections.
  • • Remove and replace damaged framing members using appropriate repair methods.
  • • Construct and install stair stringers, landings, and deck framing.
  • • Install fire blocking, draft stopping, and sound blocking as specified.
  • • Prepare and maintain daily reports, timecards, and material usage records.
  • • Estimate labor and material quantities for framing tasks.
  • • Coordinate with site supervisors and other trades to resolve layout conflicts.
  • • Maintain and service tools; ensure guards and safety devices are in place.
  • • Comply with building codes, engineering details, and inspection requirements.
  • • Work outdoors in varied weather and at heights; handle and rig materials safely.
