Description
Construct, install, and repair structures and fixtures made of wood and comparable materials, including concrete forms; building frameworks (partitions, joists, studs, rafters); stairways; window and door frames; and hardwood floors. May also install cabinets, siding, drywall, and batt or roll insulation, and set temporary bracing and forms.
- • Follow established safety rules and maintain a safe, clean job site.
- • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and building plans to lay out work, dimensions, and materials.
- • Measure and mark cutting lines using rulers, chalk lines, and marking gauges.
- • Cut, shape, and plane materials to specified measurements using hand and power tools.
- • Install structures and fixtures such as windows, doors, frames, flooring, trim, cabinetry, and hardware.
- • Verify level, plumb, and square using levels, lasers, and plumb bobs.
- • Select, order, and stage lumber, fasteners, and other materials.
- • Coordinate with electricians, plumbers, and other trades for integrated work.
- • Maintain records, document work, and provide written progress updates.
- • Build and repair cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, and other wooden fixtures using woodworking machines and tools.
- • Erect and secure scaffolding, ladders, and temporary platforms.
- • Anchor and brace forms and structures using nails, bolts, anchors, cables, wedges, and timbers.
- • Inspect woodwork, siding, wall coverings, glass, and tile to identify damage or defects.
- • Assemble and fasten materials with screws, nails, dowels, adhesives, and appropriate hardware.
- • Drill holes in timber, masonry, and concrete using power drills and rotary hammers.
- • Maintain job records and assist in scheduling the work crew.
- • Remove damaged sections and repair or replace to meet specifications.
- • Install rough openings, subflooring, fixtures, and temporary supports in new construction or renovations.
- • Finish surfaces of woodwork or wallboard by sanding, staining, painting, or paneling.
- • Examine and replace decayed structural timbers using proper fasteners and connectors.
- • Install sound-deadening, decorative, or protective wall and ceiling paneling.
- • Lay hardwood, parquet, or engineered wood floors over prepared subfloors or concrete substrates.
- • Patch and sand drywall joints and surface defects.
- • Perform minor plumbing, welding, or concrete work as needed.
- • Prepare time and material cost estimates.
- • Construct forms and chutes for concrete placement.
- • Follow procedures for handling and abating hazardous materials when required.
- • Dig post holes and set posts or poles to support structures.
