Description
Install, replace, and service residential and commercial interior and exterior doors and frames made of wood, metal, fiberglass, or glass. Read plans, measure openings, modify components, and fit hardware such as hinges, locks, closers, thresholds, and weatherstripping to deliver plumb, level, secure, code-compliant installations; may repair jambs and trim and coordinate with glaziers or electricians for specialty or automated doors.
- • Follow safety rules and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- • Review blueprints, door schedules, and manufacturer specifications to plan layouts and materials.
- • Measure openings and mark cut lines on doors, frames, and trim using measuring tools.
- • Cut, mortise, and drill doors and frames for size and hardware using hand and power tools.
- • Remove existing doors, frames, and hardware without damaging adjacent finishes.
- • Install prehung and slab doors, frames, sidelights, and transoms in residential or commercial settings.
- • Plumb, level, shim, and anchor frames to wood, steel, or masonry substrates.
- • Install hinges, locksets, deadbolts, panic hardware, closers, viewers, and other hardware.
- • Fit and adjust doors for proper reveal, swing, latch, and clearances.
- • Install thresholds, sweeps, gaskets, and weatherstripping to improve seal and energy performance.
- • Apply sealants and foam insulation around frames and set thresholds as required.
- • Install interior and exterior casing, sills, and trim; touch up finishes as needed.
- • Verify fire ratings, egress direction, and ADA clearances; document compliant installations.
- • Coordinate with glaziers and electricians for glass lites, automatic operators, or access control.
- • Inspect doors and hardware to diagnose problems and perform repairs or replacements.
- • Service and adjust door closers, tracks, rollers, and operators for smooth operation.
- • Bore holes and set anchors in wood, metal, or concrete for hardware and frames.
- • Use ladders or small scaffolds to install doors and hardware at height.
- • Select, order, and stage doors, frames, hardware, and consumables for projects.
- • Prepare cost estimates, material lists, and written job reports.
- • Maintain job records, update schedules, and communicate with clients or site supervisors.
- • Protect surrounding areas and patch minor drywall or trim affected by installation.
- • Work safely around lead paint, silica dust, or other hazards; follow containment procedures.
- • Install temporary barriers or security panels during door removal or after-hours work.
- • Mix and place non-shrink grout or setting compounds under thresholds or frames as needed.
- • Install security plates, strike reinforcements, and frame anchors to meet security specifications.
- • Dispose of removed doors and hardware in accordance with company policy and recycling requirements.
- • Train end users on operation and maintenance of door hardware.
- • Dig or set posts and install gates or exterior door assemblies when required.
